Leon Trotsky
Leon Trotsky was born in Lev Davidovich Bronstein to Jewish parents in Yanovka, Kherson Province, Ukraine and died on August 21st 1940 at the age of 60. St the time of his birth, Rutherford B Hayes was the presiden of the United States and during his death, the first peace time military draft in the US history happened.
Trotsky became a Marxism in 1897 and got arrested in 1898 working as the organiser of the South Russian Worker.
In 1905 there was a revolution in Russia. Trotsky helped organize a committee of workers in St Petersburg which was also called the Soviet. After the revolution Trotsky left Russia for his own safety. In 1917, he returned to Russia because of the Russian Revolution. He helped to bring about communism in Russia and defend it during the Russian Civil War.
In the book Animal Farm, a character named Snowball was a pig and if you compare the two together, they have got a lot in common. In the story, Snowball is young, smart and also an amazing speaker, and he also wanted to make life better for everyone and not just himself. As well as Trotsky, he was a pure communist that followed the Marxism and also wanted to improve life for everyone in Russia, the same as how Snowball wanted to improve life for all in the farm. Snowball was also one of the leaders in the revolution that had in the barn and got chased away into exile by Napoleon's (another pig from the farm) dog, as Trotsky was also the leader of the "October Revolution" also chased away by Lenin's KGB.( a short version of Committee for State Security in Russian) So, as you can see, there were a lot of facts that Orwell decided to included when writing the character Snowball and wanted to make him a shadow of Trotsky.
People who believe in Trotsky's ideas are called Trotskyists and follow Trotskyism.
