Propaganda
Propaganda can be seen all around the world, used for different reasons. Propaganda is information that is either biased or misleading used to promote political causes or point of view. There are 7 types of propaganda most used, Transfer, Testimonial, Glittering Generalities, Plain Folks, Bandwagon, Name calling and lastly, Card Stacking. Throughout the novel Animal Farm, propaganda can be seen everywhere, as the author tried to use it to prove or enthuses a point. Some propaganda can be seen in Old Major's speech, he used propaganda to identify all the humans as enemies also uniting the animals to go against one enemy. Old Major promised the rest of the animals that if they do according to what he says, their lives for sure will become better. Another propaganda seen in the book was when the pigs persuaded the other animals to agree to their animalism, and in the Russian Revolution can also be compared as calling it Communism. The pigs held secret meetings in the barn, and when the others ask the pigs about the loyalty to Mr Jones and the reason for doing this, the pigs will come up with irrelevant and unreasonable reasons to explain away difficulties. "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad" is also a great example for the use of propaganda, this is a slogan made for the animals to remember and means that only animals are good and humans are bad.
Old major can be compared with Karl Marx, as the leader of the revolution and the leader of the farm. He was the one who gave the propaganda idea to the other animals about the rebellion. Snowball and Napoleon both used propaganda when telling their ideas to others. Snowball represents Leon Trotsky, who overthrown the government but was banished. Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, who killed his partner and was a dictator.
